Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to our FAQ section. If you’re exploring care options for yourself or a loved one, you may have lots of questions—especially about the cost of care, available services, and how to choose the right home. We’ve answered the most common queries below.
If you still need help, don’t hesitate to contact us or call 01628 828722.
1. How much does care cost?
The cost of care varies depending on the level of support you need (residential, nursing, respite, or dementia care) and your location. At our care home in Littlewick Green near Maidenhead, we provide personalised quotes based on your individual needs following a care assessment.
2. How do I organise funding?
Start by requesting a care needs assessment from your local authority. This report will help determine the most suitable type of care and whether you qualify for financial support.
3. What funding am I entitled to?
Entitlement depends on a means-tested financial assessment. Your income (like pensions and benefits) and capital (such as savings, investments, and property) are reviewed to determine eligibility for local authority funding.
4. How is my income assessed?
Only your personal income is considered—this includes pensions, savings, and any regular income. Your family’s income will not be included in the financial assessment.
5. How do income and capital affect care funding?
Your total capital, including savings and assets, affects your funding eligibility. Capital thresholds vary depending on the region, so it’s best to speak with your local social services team for current figures.
6. What if I have jointly held capital?
If you share a bank account or asset, the total is usually split equally between joint holders during the financial assessment.
7. Is anything disregarded in the financial assessment?
Yes. Certain benefits such as Attendance Allowance and Disability Living Allowance are not counted. Personal possessions are also excluded unless purchased to avoid charges.
8. Will I need to sell my home to pay for care?
If your spouse or partner still lives in your home, its value is usually excluded from the assessment. However, if you live alone, it may be counted. It’s worth exploring options like renting your home or seeking advice from a specialist financial advisor.
9. What is deprivation of assets?
Giving away money or property to avoid care costs is classed as ‘deprivation of assets.’ If suspected, the local authority may still include those assets in their assessment.
10. Why are short stays more expensive?
Short-term care, such as respite care near Maidenhead, may carry a slightly higher fee to account for the additional planning and support involved. These guests receive the same quality lifestyle as long-term residents.
11. What happens if I run out of money?
If your savings are approaching the capital limit, contact your local authority for a care needs reassessment. It’s essential to plan ahead with your care provider and funding team.
12. Is your care home regulated?
Yes. Our home is regularly inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). You can find our most recent inspection rating displayed on our website or available on request during your visit.
13. Do you offer double rooms for couples or companions?
Most of our rooms are spacious, ensuite, and beautifully furnished. While we don’t offer standard double rooms at Riders, some of our sister homes nearby do. Contact us to explore options for couples, close friends, or residents looking for extra space.
14. Can I bring my pet?
While we can’t accommodate full-time pets, most are welcome to visit by prior arrangement with the Home Manager.
15. Can residents spend time outside?
Yes! We offer secure and accessible outdoor areas, including landscaped gardens and peaceful seating spaces. Residents can enjoy fresh air, light gardening, or simply relaxing with a book.
16. What’s the food like at Riders Care Home?
We’re proud of our hospitality. Our on-site chef prepares fresh, seasonal meals every day, tailored to dietary needs. Afternoon teas, homemade cakes, and nutritious menus are all part of life here. Residents can also enjoy room service at no extra charge.
17. Is room service available?
Absolutely. Residents may enjoy meals in their room when preferred, and there’s no tray charge. Family and friends are welcome to join too.
18. What qualifications do your care team have?
Our care staff receive ongoing training in person-centred care, safety, and specialist support. Team members working in our dementia care home near Maidenhead also receive additional training in understanding memory loss and supporting residents with compassion and expertise.
19. Do your Home Managers have care experience?
Yes. Our Home Manager is a senior nurse with extensive experience in leading high-quality care services. We believe strong leadership is key to delivering excellent outcomes for residents and families alike.
